How to make sure that your writing appeals to readers?

I am considering writing a book. The basic story is a women marrying into a spiritually and mentally abusive relationship. The man she marries cuts her off from her family and brings her into a decade long marriage of perpetual childbearing and submission. I was thinking along the lines of Henrik Ibsen's "a dolls house". How can i start?
